Expanding your Culturality: Foriegn Films: Chinese

April 6, 2012

Kung Fu Hustle

One of the great films. With as much movie spirit and animation as you could expect from the slap stick humor and personality Japan tends to put off in its shows. This is a mix of “13 Assassins”, “Ichi: The Killer”, “Kung Pow: Enter the Fist”, and a National Lampoon flick, or an “Ace Ventura”.  The massive fights show off the classic kung fu styles, the dress, the architecture, and one part of the culture that strikes the little boy in me, THE GANGS.  (For most of the past 500 years Japanese government was very small and gangs ruled the island, over 150 different clans)  The absolute disrespect for guns is another part of the film I like aside from the unreal fighting capabilities of the whole town, the cruelty of the oppressor, and the old tradition tied together in a way only Japanese cinema has mastered; well maybe bugs bunny and roadrunner too. Neither here nore there, what do you look for when you log onto net flicks to expand your culturality thru a good foriegn film?
